Simon marchant
I am a sound worker. I record, edit, mix and master audio but also devise music to work with other creative media.
As a core member of the post-punk band, Normil Hawaiians, I have an interest in exploring alternative approaches to sound/music creation. I believe that composition is simply a process of discovery and that the most interesting music comes either from searching deeper and further or from foraging with an unorthodox technique.
Sound Design
An underlying principle informs much of the creative sound work I undertake. I believe that provenance and purpose should hold equal footing with aesthetic considerations in the creation of authentic art, whether it be visual or sonic…. Where does the sound originate from, what is doing at the point of human contact, and what is its motive?
Sound Editing
I have a detailed and thorough approach to sound editing, using Izotope RX audio restoration software and Logic Pro for most of my work.
RX is the industry standard for audio repair. This sophisticated AI-poweered software uses a variety of selection tools to tame, replace, or completely remove any unwanted noise.
Sound for Moving Image
I aim to create immersive and emotive themes and sonic environments, blurring the boundaries of sound design and traditional composition, to contextualise visual action and underscore emotional elements.
